Ideas for a Stronger Nation

Make life more affordable and scrap the carbon tax

  • The carbon tax is fueling the cost-of-living crisis that is making it harder and more expensive for everyday families to purchase life’s necessities.
  • The carbon tax is also making it harder for businesses to invest, grow, and create jobs.
  • The Parliamentary Budget Officer has been clear: the carbon tax costs many families and businesses hundreds of dollars more than they get back in rebates.
  • We must scrap the carbon tax and make life easier and more affordable for Albertans and Canadians to pay their bills and invest in the future.

Build more houses for Albertans and Canadians

  • After nearly a decade of Justin Trudeau, housing and rent prices have become completely unaffordable.
  • Young people cannot purchase their first home and our most vulnerable are being forced to live on the streets or in encampments.
  • I will use my previous experience as an MLA and Cabinet Minister to work with municipalities and provincial governments to expedite permits and build more homes.
  • We must also explore new, innovate, and unique ways to build more homes for Canadians.

Grow and diversify the economy for a resilient future

  • Canada has experienced years of stagnant economic growth under Justin Trudeau.
  • To build a resilient future, we must not only grow the economy, but diversify it as well.
  • We can do this by supporting new and exciting industries like film, technology, petrochemicals, hydrogen, manufacturing, and more.
  • Canada has limitless economic potential, but we must create the right ecosystem for entrepreneurs and businesses to succeed, if we are going to achieve success.

End Ottawa’s war on Alberta’s energy industry

  • Alberta’s world-class energy industry has been the economic engine of Canada’s economy for years.
  • Unfortunately, Justin Trudeau has targeted our industry with hostile policies like Bills C-69, the “no more pipelines act” and C-48, the “tanker ban.” These policies must be repealed.
  • We must also continue investing in technology and innovation to reduce emissions without compromising jobs or investment and stop listening to environmental radicals who want to shut-down our energy industry.
  • Canada produces the most ethical and environmentally-friendly energy in the world. We should celebrate our industry, not demean it.

Fast-track recognition of foreign credentials

  • Many talented newcomers aren’t achieving their full potential in Canada because federal, provincial, and territorial standards for recognizing foreign credentials are too slow and outdated.
  • This is a significant threat to Canada’s future economic growth and must be taken more seriously by the federal government.
  • To help alleviate this issue, Canada must create a cross-Canada certification for professions that are in high-demand.
  • Further, the federal government must incentivize provinces to improve their processes for recognizing foreign credentials, like Alberta is doing now.

Support our most vulnerable citizens

  • The measure of any society can be found in how it treats its most vulnerable members, from children to seniors to those facing physical or developmental disabilities.
  • We must support all these groups and the programs and services they rely on, in order to hold our heads high as a nation.
  • This includes providing more support for Canada’s veterans, who often struggle with physical and mental health challenges, after they finish their service.
  • As Alberta’s former Minister of Persons with Disabilities, I am very passionate about this and will work tirelessly to improve the way Canada supports its most vulnerable members.
